a solid 4 stars.

I received an ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the story about Cameron, who has been living hiding a huge secret from everyone. She is able to read minds and until weird things started happening in her small town she hasn't met anyone else like her. That is until she meets Lewis. Lewis shows her what life could be like if she didn't have to hide her ability from everyone. Cam goes with him and believes his promise but in the process finds out some truly

Sadly this story didn't live up to us potential. Maybe Cameron grows up more in future books, and maybe I'll read them to find out at another time but not in the immediate future.

As I mentioned there was great promise to the concept of the story but it leaned too heavily on "he's not like other boys" instant attraction, whiny female lead that makes Disney-esque decision to abandon her only family to follow said guy, and other played out young adult tropes. I really enjoyed reading about Cam and her growing mind reading abilities. I would have loved to learn more about the grandmother and her abilities. I was less than pleased about her memory, but there is a part 2 so we shall see where this leads.

I guess I'm starting to read more YA. I'm not generally a fan of teenaged angst, but the author doesn't dwell overly much on that, and the heroine has problems enough to justify what's there. The book is the first of the series (and currently free). While there are unresolved issues at the end, there's also a feeling of resolution, so it's satisfying on a single-book level, but I enjoyed it enough to want to read the rest. Glad I found this. ...more
