This particular story trope hasn’t come up in my prior reading experiences; therefore it lends a bit of a new twist. I was drawn by the story’s synopsis. This particular story trope hasn’t come up in my prior reading experiences; therefore it lends a bit of a new twist. I was drawn by the story’s synopsis. But it didn’t nearly prepare me for the shocking emotional and disturbing turmoil on the pages of this book.

Drew and Fable are two very broken young adults. Drew, by far has suffered the most, both physically and mentally. His family is one big dysfunction. And his stepmother, Adele, is truly the wicked witch of the west! She's just the type of woman you love to hate. And though we didn't get much detail on his father, he's just one big snobby dud from what little we did see. I have to believe there's more in store when we get the sequel because there has to be more explanation where they are concerned.

Fable has suffered the anguish of loneliness while shouldering responsibilities far beyond her years when she’s virtually abandoned by her alcoholic mother and must care for herself and her younger brother. Fable’s mother is missing much of the time so we get very little background info on her either. What we do see doesn’t paint a very pretty picture. Money is a serious problem for this family and Fable works two jobs just to keep food on the table and the cheap rent paid for a roof over their heads.

When Drew is ordered home for Thanksgiving break, he can’t stand the thought of facing the encounter alone. Offering a substantial amount of money, he hires himself a “fake girlfriend” for one week hoping this will help him evade the problems he’s facing. You can guess who plays the part of the girlfriend. Yes, Fable sees this as an opportunity to fill the coffer for several months and she agrees to Drew’s proposition with some stipulations of her own.

So the wealthy young college football star takes home the poor girl from the wrong side of the tracks to meet his Mommy and Daddy. This is the part where the author’s writing really begins to shine. She writes such a bittersweet and often gut-wrenching story of pain and heartbreak, of fear and sorrow, and of a new love beginning to blossom. Both Drew and Fable have built protective walls around their hearts and it was captivating to watch as their relationship began to slowly spark and bits and pieces of trust surface.

And oh boy, just when you think we’re going full steam ahead possibly towards some normalcy, the evil stepmother gets one last stab to the gut blocking any chance or hope for that now. So here comes that cliffhanger and readers are left feeling deep sorrow for both Drew, who has gone off to lick his wounds, and for Fable, who is left with a broken heart holding a love letter in her hands and nothing else. If I haven’t said it before, here it is again: I hate cliffhangers!

This is one of those books that sticks with you long after you’ve finished. It makes you question just how often these types of injustices occur and go unnoticed or unpunished -- because there are certainly those who need to be held accountable in these types of situations.

Such a sweet romance! Some events occur that are so shocking. Fable and Drew have some explosive chemistry throughout the pages. Drew’s afraid that if Fable knows the truth about him, she would be disgusted. But, when the truth comes out, she’s more than understanding. She’s sympathetic towards him. Sad. Caring. And, the stepmom, Adele? Well what a piece of work! So selfish! Predatory. A real monster! Will Drew and Fable stick together as a couple? Or just remain friends? Part 2 will clarify tha ...more

Wow!!! Drew really has some SERIOUS issues that need to be worked out. Fable is just too cute and I love her name. This book has some serious issues running through it and makes you feel a crap load of emotions, love, pissyness, hate, anger, loathing, disgust, hope, frustration, sadness and like you want to put your hand through someone’s nose (not sure that’s really an emotion but let’s go with it!) 3.5 stars. That said, I loved this series!

It is too hard for me to review this book without considering the second book, Second Chance Boyfriend. If book one and book two would have been combined, it would have been a stronger story for me and therefore, a higher rating. I felt One Week Girlfriend was more of a build up to book two, Second Chance Boyfriend. The climax was essentially the ending, making the last 20% of the story the best part of the book. I really liked this book.

I was very curious why a hot good looking football player was paying someone to pretend to be his girlfriend. However once he took Fable home it was very clear why.

His step mom Adele is nuts and his dad is hard on him and always pushing him to make goals and plans. Drew has a troubled past that stems from his being at home. This was one of those book that I almost unable to finished, not because I didn't like the book, but because this book contain certain element that it was almost too heavy and too ugly for me to continue reading. And I am still debating if I should read book two that's currently sitting in my kindle and have my closure of the story of Fable and Drew.

I have come across from time to time of books that aren't for faint of heart. I usually stay away from them for my own sake. I am often glad that the author and book reviewer would warn you ahead of time, that the book isn't for everyone. Well, this was one that I wished I knew ahead, and by the time I realized what it was about, it was too late for me to stop. I had to finished it.

When the golden boy Drew Callahan offer $3,000 for Fable to be his temporary girlfriend, Fable didn't really know what she agreed to. Not until she met Drew's parents and endured through the weird behaviors, and the intense atmosphere at the home Drew grow up to. Fable knows something wasn't quite right, that Drew was hiding something from her, and she wasn't sure she was ready to know what it was about.

Neither Drew nor Fable came from a perfect home, with Fable being more obvious, an irresponsible drunken mother that jump from boyfriend to boyfriend, and Fable have to work at a bar to support her and her brother. Drew came from a wealthy family, his mother passed away when he was little. His father remarried to a younger beautiful wife or should I say a sick evil monster bitch.

It makes me sick to the stomach to read about what Drew went through since he was only 15 years old. It made me angry, even tearing to reading Drew's memory fragments. Every time he opened up to Fable, something would triggered him, it left me feeling disturbed, emotional and heartbroken. I want to screamed at Drew's father and ask him how can he not know. I want to stab his stepmother when she revealed a shocking, destructive news to Drew. How dare she, and I really hope that it isn't true.

Reading One Week Girlfriend was an emotional ride for me, being an New Adult, thus the descriptions was lot more graphical. If you are brave, don't miss out on a good New Adult Romance book with a dark twist!

I am not sure what happened in Second Chance Boyfriend yet. I hope I can have my closure, because I really needs it. ...more

And again another gut wrencher!! Wow this story had a LOT of stuff packed in but it was all perfect. Fable and Drew were beautifully together if not beautifully broken. I will say at the end I was ready to jump through my iPad and beat the shit out of someone!! Can't wait for the continuation!!
