Much like the Netflix series Bloodline, in which the Florida Keys act as a major character, For a Song puts Hawaii at the forefront of its narrative. The protagonist Kawika winds his way through the upper echelon and underbelly of Honolulu, amid the backdrop of mountains, parks, and the city’s ample waterfront. The author portrays the sun-soaked island city in such a manner that readers (at least this one) feel like they’ve been dropped amid the palm trees and mountains.

For a Song (2007) by Rodney Morales was a good Private Investigator genre read. The story takes place in contemporary, 2007, Hawaii, and follows PI David “Kawika” Apana as he investigates the disappearance of a young couple. Every character possible is thrown into the story-line...dirty cops, mysterious Feds, a divorced wife, an is-she or isn't-she girl friend, a New Zealand drinking 'buddy' living in a boat next door, rich-evil-scum-bag-elitist, and the characters go on & on...LOL, enough to fi
