Definitely a lite version of a post-apocalyptic world. Yeah they lose electricity and the weekly groceries, but they have enough to eat, clean water to drink and shower with, their homes are intact, and no fallout to deal with.
Any book that states the someone's life (Alice's) has more meaning and purpose after a nuclear war than before it, is overly optimistic.
The last paragraph kills me, no one ever wins a global nuclear war.

Whilst a classic novel, it still reads fresh today, the charterers are well written. I recommend this classic book.
