What Members Thought

I love this book! Just to be warned this isn't a happy uplifting story. This story has evoked a bunch of different emotions and even anger. Much of this is from the lack of women’s rights during this time period. It’s also what makes this book so wonderful. I’m so happy to not be a female during this time. I feel so bad for Tess. Thomas Hardy knows how to show don't tell. He is such a master at creating emotional texture. Like the diamond had a sinister wink of a frog. There is an allusion to fairytales as well as the religious code. I am disappointed to have known some of these characters in real life. But I guess that means that I am living a full live. So I am grateful..to have known but hopefully be wiser.

I have started this book a dozen times and I have yet to finish it. I think that it must just not be for me. Usually I love this type of book but I just can't get into this one.
