I was so looking forward to reading this and I am waiting to see what the book club will make of it. I don't know if it was just me but I found it impossible to read. It didn't flow at all, the constant switching between second and third person made it very difficult to get into. As well as this, there were pages and pages of irrelevant stories and pure rambling that didn't seem to tie into the story. This is a story of a love affair. This is a story of theater in Ireland. This is a story about class distinction in Ireland. This is a wonderfully written story. It is a great book to read along Ulysses. Which happened in my case by accident. Some of the story happens more or less in the same Dublin as Ulysses, but the most interesting part is seeing the influence of Joyce in this book. It is not a page turner, but it is entertaining and well written. The characters although based on real people ...more

I've just finished reading 'Ghost Light', by Joseph O'Connor and my mind is still ringing with the sound of it, the music and words of Molly Allgood's voice, but let me not race ahead. Let me do the thing properly.
