Well, Twain says in the beginning that the characters are compilations of people he knew, and the adventures are a collection as well, so I suppose it's no surprise that so many crazy adventures happen to primarily these two boys. But what a ride! You have to laugh at the boys' antics, even while a parent would roll their eyes and pull their hair out in frustration. Somehow or other, I got through high school without reading this classic or its sequel Huck Finn, and I'm glad because it would have ruined the experience. I definitely prefer Huck Finn, but Tom is still likable in this book - mischievous, funny, and with a good-hearted side that shows through at the end.

I was able to finish it this time. I still don't like Tom Sawyer very much, I'm not sure why this one is considered a classic or for children. The adventures are ok.
