Shelves: read-aloud-to-kids, fiction, classics, fantasy
I read this book once as a child and twice as an adult, the second time being with my kids. The NIMH scenes were absolutely amazing every time, but reading this with my kids gave me a fresh perspective on the book. I know it won the Newberry, and it deserved it - talk about an original storyline - but my kids found all the scenery descriptions dull. The author did it in minute detail, which is first-class writing, but all they wanted was to get to the ACTION. There IS plenty of action in the boo ...more
