This is the story that makes Sherlock Holmes what he is and spawns a whole genre of books dedicated to deductive reasoning to capture criminals. Not only is the mystery beautiful to watch unfold, but the chilling descriptions of the misty, forlorn moor and the myths associated with it are done so stunningly well that when one reads of the deadly cry across the moor it literally makes one's skin crawl.
