I read this book because the protagonist in the Name of the Rose is William of Baskerville...and throw back to this book.

Book was published in 1904.

The legendary house, Baskerville Hall, was built in 1839, by Thomas Mynors Baskerville for his beloved wife, Elizabeth.

The Baskervilles were related to the Dukes of Normandy and assisted William the Conqueror to become king in 1066 CE.

The author, Arthur Conan Doyle was a family friend of the Baskervilles and visited frequently.

This is the story that makes Sherlock Holmes what he is and spawns a whole genre of books dedicated to deductive reasoning to capture criminals. Not only is the mystery beautiful to watch unfold, but the chilling descriptions of the misty, forlorn moor and the myths associated with it are done so stunningly well that when one reads of the deadly cry across the moor it literally makes one's skin crawl.
