I can’t think of Breakfast at Tiffany’s without thinking of Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly who really nailed the character. Capote’s character in this book is seen as a darker character. In Hepburn, we see a modern woman in a little black dress, chic and who enjoys the nightlife. In this book, we learn she is a hooker with a background. She is a society girl who fled to New York from a troubled hillbilly upbringing.

The main story in this small collection, Breakfast at Tiffany's, is concerned by many to be a modern classic. While I guess it was a cute enough story, I just don't see the appeal. I saw the film many years ago and was thoroughly unimpressed and while the book wasn't as bad, I just didn't engage in it. Holly reminded me too much of people that I know who are lazy and frivolous and expect their friends to take care of the daily annoyances for them. She is a free spirit, I suppose, but frankly not

Truman Capote is a master of descriptive character presentation, probably the best I have ever read. He vividly paints a picture of each character so precise one can hear each breathe. It is impressive reading.
