What Members Thought
I understand why this is a classic of military history. It is thoroughly researched. But not having an interest in military history, I found it to be a slog. I was repulsed by the arrogance, ineptitude and total disregard for human life displayed by those making the decisions, by the culture of obedience and the rampant executions that prevented the legitimate questioning and disobedience of orders that might have saved hundreds of thousands of soldiers and civilians.
