Why 3 stars... yeah I didn’t like this book, it didn’t do it for me, but at the same time I was oddly fascinated by it and just had to know what was happening. Wow. I’m not sure how to review this. I don’t typically read books like this so... yeah.

First off all why on earth is this in the YA section? Because the protagonist (are they protagonist?). Are 15/16ish? I cant imagine Read for the Frisco Undead & Unread

First off all why on earth is this in the YA section? Because the protagonist (are they protagonist?). Are 15/16ish? I cant imagine a this being read by kids. Basically sum up a season of Law & Order SVU crimes and criminals and put them in a world with magic portals and you have this book.

So as the summary says there are 2 sisters who are the daughters of a serial killer, and they make a wish that they can commit their sick twisted fantasy killings with no one finding them. So a dead spirit, Cherry, gives them a gift to open up a portal to another world so they can commit these crimes.

While this book is listed as a stand alone it is the second book set in this world of Potrero, TX. I feel like the world building was missing a bit. Is the world building in the book, Bleeding Violets. I kinda felt lost in to what all was happening in this strange strange world.

The portals I loved the portal. I loved the idea of being able to walk into this fantasy world (although it was more dream like in that whatever they needed just appeared a bit like the room of requirements in Harry Potter). I liked all the strange plants, and weird creatures and just strange quirks of this town in fact even as odd and disturbing as this book is I kind of want to read the other in this world. There is no shortage of ideas in this world though. Like the author threw everything and the kitchen sink in here. Imps, demon possessions, necromancy, you name it.

The characters are so odd and completely unlikeable. In fact I think I liked poor Franked the best. All of them had just the strangest quirks, but I kept reading.

Overall if you like strange weird twisted messed up books with whiny teens this is for you. I’m not sure I enjoyed it per say. I’m deeply disturbed by many of the things I read, but it was interesting and different. ...more
