I read the book "Rule of the Bone", by Russell Banks. I liked the book a lot and think it is a good read and I recommend it to anyone. The book is about a teenaged boy named Chappie and his adventures in trying to find himself a home and family.

Rule of the Bone is pretty much about a kid named Chappie who lives in upstate New York and always fights with his parents, that steals and does drugs. After one large fight he has with his parents, Chappie decides he had enough and left to go live with his friend Russ. Both Russ and Chappie were small drug dealers to get money to pay for the rent. After Chappie and Russ got into a heated argument with the motorcycle gang what lived with them, their apartment was accidently set on fire and the t Rule of the Bone is pretty much about a kid named Chappie who lives in upstate New York and always fights with his parents, that steals and does drugs. After one large fight he has with his parents, Chappie decides he had enough and left to go live with his friend Russ. Both Russ and Chappie were small drug dealers to get money to pay for the rent. After Chappie and Russ got into a heated argument with the motorcycle gang what lived with them, their apartment was accidently set on fire and the two boys fled the scene to live with two hippies on an abandoned bus. As the story progresses Chappie and Russ part ways and Russ goes back home to his family and Chappie stays on the road. Chappie then goes back to the abandoned bus where he finds a Jamaican man named I-man living there. I-man and Chappie become pretty good friends and Chappie and I-man travel back to I-man's homeland of Jamaica. To wrap the story up Chappie lives in Jamaica and ends up finding his real father living there and Chappie goes to live with his real father. Chappie in the end decides to go back to America and then goes on a boat that's destination is southeast of Jamaica.

What I liked most about this book is the adventure that Chappie went on. Although he stole and sold drugs to get money and hitch hiked to get around, I would love to go on the adventures he did such as travel about New York and go to Jamaica. I also liked how Chappie got to finally meet his real father.

What I disliked about this book is far less than what I liked but I still disagreed on something in the book. I didn't like the main character because of this attitude and the way he dressed. Chappie always talked back to anyone who argued with him. He also dressed weird and had many piercings like nose piercings and had a mohawk hairstyle. I also disliked how he always stole from people and didn't even care what he did.

I would recommend this book to anyone because of its humor and adventure to it. I will say that this book does have drug and alcohol use a lot during the story as well as tons of profane language. I definitely wouldn't recommend this book to younger children because of the language and drugs and anyone who doesn't like to read stories with this language in it. ...more
