The fourth and last book of Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, continues on with Bella’s journey from being a human to a vampire which is like the first three books Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse. Yet, in this book, Bella finally marries Edward Cullen and becomes a vampire! Furthermore, Bella is strongest in the Cullen family and bore a child that is half-vampire and half-human which was an unexpected turn to what I thought might have happen such as the relationship between Edward and Jacob becoming friendlier. What happened between Edward and Jacob becoming “friends” or even considered themselves as brothers really brought the story out of place because for the last two books, they hated each other and are enemies. I would not expect by a little thing such as Bella’s pregnancy would bring them to the same line and fighting together.

The last and major conflict that Meyer presents in this book, having the Volturi Coven coming to kill the Cullens (the Olympic Coven), was really unnecessary and pointless because, as the book described, all a mistake. The character who caused the problem Irina just took one glimpse in the woods at Bella’s daughter Renesmee and left, thinking that Renesmee would endanger the vampire race. After this event, the Cullen family started preparing all sorts of things to survive and even gathered other vampires who are willing to sacrifice their lives for this “fight”. I expected by the time both sides met each other, there would be a fight or some action because Meyer wrote the story as to there was something major event going to happen. However, by the time they met, what happened mostly was talking, peaceful conversations with tension but that’s about it. No action. No drama as a person would expect and this whole conflict carried the book to almost two hundred pages which I feel that it could be shrunk to a small amount. After I read pass to “the big event”, my response was “Oh. Chiew”.

Although the conflict was okay, Meyer did really well in telling through Jacob’s point of view on the second part of the book which could have not been told through Bella’s perspective because some events that are mentioned Bella is not present and are not aware of. An example is the promise between Edward and Jacob at the early stage of Bella’s quick less-than-a-month pregnancy.

Comparing Breaking Dawn to Twilight, the first book of the saga, Twilight had more action and tensions are building up to keep me entertained and wanting for more. Meanwhile, in Breaking Dawn, there was not a lot of this feeling which was the most disappointing of all because after all, it was the last book even though the ending was a satisfying, good ending for the readers.

From the moment I started Breaking Dawn, I was hooked, but more than the other 3 books because there was just so much going on, and it really let you find out how everything you wanted to know was going to turn out and more. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning and middle section, got a little bored, but still on my toes towards the end, and as an overall loved the book and the whole series for that matter.
