Nikki ~ The Nocturnal Bookworm
It was a huge challenge to put down this book and not just forgo sleep to finish it all in one go. Honestly if I wasn't reading other books as well for buddy reads I probably would have. The interesting thing about this book is that the horror comes from the depravity and cruelty of the people almost as much if not more than the vampire. I would still recommend this to a fan of vampire horror, Eli was quite creepy and terrifying (while still somehow being endearing in a sad almost pity way). I w ...more

Other than a couple of scenes the original movie is practically scene for scene. It is a good vampire book but it's not one of my favorites. ...more

So yeah no...I read it and I couldn't stop reading it but I never enjoyed it. It's like that accident that you shouldn't look at yet you can help but to continue to stare at.

It's twisted and disturbing yet kind of meh at the same time. I don't get the 5 star reviews, the book could have been much better, it was interesting but wasn't all at the same time. I couldn't put aside and not finish it and yet on the other hand my life wouldn't be missing much if I had never picked it up to start with.

I enjoyed the relationship between Oskar and Eli, but I can't really say I took much of a liking to the other elements of it. The quality of the translation seems good, in that while there are a few sentances that seem odd, you get a sense of an author/narrator's voice that is coherent if occasionally quirky, rather than something which is awkward. That voice in particular is what kept me reading through the elements I liked less, it is very enagaging. ...more
