Slewfoot is my first 'favorite' of 2023, and my second Brom ever.
She called to them: the cicadas , the moths, the beetles, and fireflies, the little gnats and mosquitos, the thousands and thousands of little mosquitos. And they responded, their tiny voices swelling, coming together like a song, filling the woods with their melody as they flew to her, swarming and swirling together like a growing storm cloud.

Just as great this time as it was the first time I listened to it.

Not me procrastinating reading Slewfoot & then ending up absolutely LOVING IT. 10/10 recommend. Now, watch me as I binge read all of Brom’s books 😅.
Slewfoot is written so beautifully; it was hard NOT to devour this so quickly. I’m not usually a historical fiction girly, but this one had me wrapped around its horns. & the vibes felt so so so fitting for the Autumn season.

I love me a good folklore horror, and this hits the spot. It reminded me a lot of The Witch - one of my favorite horror movies. I guess because it also revolved around Puritans, witches, getting back at your oppressors, and what not. Only Slewfoot's tale differs beyond that, of course. I just love this specific niche of witchy folkloric horror. The whole story was an epic dark tale worth reading and I absolutely loved Samson as a character.

"If it is a witch they want," she hissed, "then a witch they shall have."
YESSS!!! Now this is a witch book worth reading, set during the puritan age. Loved the dynamic of Abitha and Slewfoot. And the bloodbath was highly satisfying.
