This was a book reminiscent of classic sword and sorcery tales, but not set in a Northern European world. It was fast paced from the start and never bogged down. It was refreshing in a genre in which lately novels have been moving towards being too padded.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters and their arcs, especially Lydia.
