I’ve read a lot of good reviews on The Sweet Gum Tree, but the summary never really interested me, however, I had to see what the fuss was about and I have to say the reviews were pretty much spot on.
Alix and Nick are southern childhood friends. Alix is the granddaughter of a judge and comes from a respectable good home. Nick is from the wrong side of the tracks and has a trash of a father. Despite family differences Alix and Nick form a relationship.

I absolutely loved this book from the first page to the last. I really couldn't put it down. It is an emotional book that will tug at your heart and at the same time frustrate you to the max. This book has everything from love, betrayal, growth to redemption. It is a must read and in my opinion deserves 5 full stars. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

Looks like I'm a minority in my opinion of this book. 2.5 stars, not 2. While I liked the plot and cried more often than not throughout this book, I couldn't entirely relate to Alix. There was so much anger in her life that clouded her judgement. I don't have that kind of anger bubbling at the surface; I just didn't understand it. I figured out the ending about halfway into the book and just wanted to yell at Alix for not listening to anyone!
