The only reason I read this book was because it was mentioned as one that links to the Dark Tower series. It doesn’t really tie into the series but different aspects are mentioned in this book, which to me are always fun to find as I read. It turns out that I ended up really liking this book. I was a little worried at first whether I was going to actually finish this book.

I was a little worried at first whether I was going to actually finish this book.

So the description says the story is about a Husband how is beating his wife and she leaves him, with constant fear he will hunt her down. I expected some difficult situations but the beginning of this book opens with a very descriptive scene of Norman the Husband, beating his wife Rose within and inch of her life and causes her to loose their unborn child. As a Husband and a father I was really bothered by this and worried if this was how the whole book was going to be I would stop reading it right then. Thankfully, it didn’t continue past that point but the thought of a husband raising a hand to his wife is impossible for me to fathom. The story continues to follow Rosie as she finds her way in the world running from her husband but constantly fearing him finding her because he is a police officer.

I really enjoyed this story because as always, it was very well written, and King does an amazing job catching the reader’s interest with his character development. Each character has depth and is interesting enough that I wanted to learn more about each one as the book progressed. The other big reason I really enjoyed this book is because I listened to it in audio. This audio book is read by two people, Blair Brown who reads the point of view of Rosie, and Stephen King who reads the point of view of Norman. I loved the chance in reader when the story changed because both Ms. Brown, and King brought different personalities to the roles and it really made me look forward to finding out what each character was going to do next. I always enjoy when Stephen King reads an audio because I get to hear the character’s voice just as, I would assume, he imagines it when he writes it. All in all this was a great story and I enjoyed it. In kings world of the Dark Tower he says KA is a wheel, and this book is a great example of that. So for those who have read the Dark Tower series you will understand what I mean, and for those that haven’t I would still recommend this because it is just a great story.

This was an alright book, though not one of King's best. I didn't really get the whole purpose of the supernatural things that were in the book, though it was interesting seeing the mythology incorporated throughout it. It would've been fine with no supernatural stuff; it just felt added on, so it could be another obvious dark tower connection. I'm severely in doubt whether to reward this book with three or four stars. Let me start by saying that in general i like this book. It wasn't as horrifying as most King books but still grusome in it's own way. I liked the story very much from the beginning. The characters are well developed and i can only too well imagine the horror Rose must have felt. But the aspect of Rose going through the painting into another world was a bit too much for me. ...more

Fantastic story! Once I got into the story, I found it hard to put down. Suspenseful, horrific, I loved the romance part of it, very touching. A great book altogether. I definitely recommend it.
