What Members Thought

This book wasn't an easy read, but his brilliance just dances off the page. His ideas, phrasing, tone, everything just show what a master of the craft he is. This book made me ashamed to be a white American, but then, most everything does these days.

This book is incredibly ambitious. Each state in the underground railroad represents a different type of oppression of slaves in America. It is beautifully written. Direct.
The book received a four from me because pacing. Some chapters were much more effective in conveying a place in time than others.

I listened to this book on my commute. To say I enjoyed this book would be the wrong way to say it. It was an enlightening book. I am a privileged white male, so I will never understand what this book details so well. I think it is important to read books like this to remind us, regardless of our color, how bad things were, and that we still have further to go.

Beautiful, powerful, provocative. Read more of my thoughts on the book here - https://andilit.com/2017/01/28/cadenc....
