Shelves: science-fiction

A serviceable sci-fi romance. It doesn't invent the wheel, but the writing is good and the characters are pleasant to spend a little time with. I was particularly taken by Luke, who was cute in his weirdness.

However: a lot of the science fiction aspect of it felt like shoddily-done window-dressing; everything seemed a little bland and distant to me, and when I tried to picture the universe they were existing in, I came up short. Pretty much everything about the setup of this universe:

The uniforms? Come on. And the hair thing was just an excuse to give the MC blue hair.

It took me a while to get it, but the universe setup kind of resembles that of Star Wars.

The immediate aftermath of the crash made absolutely no sense. Am I missing something here? It feels like the characters are operating with information they can't possibly know.

The best name for the language she could come up with was "Empirish"?
