This book is a critique of philanthrocapitalism (the idea of doing charity not as a social necessity but as a long term business investment), which has rightly started to come under fire quite recently. This is an incredibly insightful book. The author examines and explains the dynamics that have created and are perpetuating the global oligarchy.
Unfortunately, I despair that the vast majority of people who read this book will be the ones who least need to read it. They will either be people who are entrenched in the world the author critiques, or they will be people like me who already have a sense of the problem and want to understand it better. My only question is this, how do we get the portion of angry people who are on the "populist right" who hate government and taxes and social spending to realize they are mad at the right people, but for the wrong reasons?
