Considering the horrible government response to the refugee concentration camps, this was a very timely book, repeatedly outlining the algorithm of justifying torture throughout the entire country's history. Each chapter deals with a specific period and forms of abuses: from colonization, to the Independence war, to early prisons, to slavery, to the civil war, to US imperialism, to police abuse, to the cold war, to more recent wars (Iraq) to now.
