Bevins assess various uprisings with nuance as well as their subsequent fallouts, showing the roles played by the state, media, money and public.

The discussion around the limitations of horizontal movements was welcomed as it has been missing in other works. If We Burn is a more personal story than the Jakarta Method but this doesn’t detract at all from the book.
