OMG! Okay, I loved this book. I loved the world, I loved the characters and I loved the secrets!! I need book two! I devoured this book in a few hours and read until I had finished it. I would definitely recommend.

Ace of Shades was a book that I was really looking forward to reading since the beginning of the year. As the release date was getting closer I haven't really heard no one talking about this book and I was getting a little worry to be honest. Then I stopped worrying, all the time I got burned from hyped books I decided that it was a good thing that I didn't here much about this book. I was totally right by the way, I really did like it a lot. There were some problems which is why this a four sta Ace of Shades was a book that I was really looking forward to reading since the beginning of the year. As the release date was getting closer I haven't really heard no one talking about this book and I was getting a little worry to be honest. Then I stopped worrying, all the time I got burned from hyped books I decided that it was a good thing that I didn't here much about this book. I was totally right by the way, I really did like it a lot. There were some problems which is why this a four star read and not a five. I'm hoping in the next book it would get better.

I'm just going to get what I problem I had with it out of the way. World building and some character development. We don't know much about the world including New Reynes and seeing how the book is being taken place there it's kind of a big deal. We don't have much backstory on the gangs, which again is very prevalent to the story, along with the two families that run the North side. We also don't get much history on relationships between Levi and his gang and those that bore a mention. There's only a few things we know about each character that was mention, but for me it's not enough, I wanted more. I feel like she can delve deeper into the characters in the new few books because I'm not fully connected to them like I feel like I can be.

The plot was interesting to say and I did enjoy the ride of it all, but the ending did fell a little flat to me. It was like we were building to this big anticipation and it wasn't what I thought it would be. The ending felt rush, but the epilogue made me very interested in the next book. I do hope the author brings the plot from this book to the next one because I feel like there's more to it because if not it would be very disappointing for it to end so bad like it did.

Now on to characters

Erienne 'Enne' Abacus Salta
In the beginning she was annoying with her holier than thou attitude she was sporting, but after her second or third day in New Reynes she grew on me. The longer she was in NR the more she shed who she use to be and became badass and I was rooting for her. Her relationship with Levi is my favorite thing. It's a mixture of slow burn and 'hurry up and kiss already'; I enjoyed that a lot. Seeing Enne go from demure to straight badass was awesome to see her character development.

My love for Levi is out of this world, I just love him so much and I want to protect him from everyone. Levi is a very good gambler and works for St. Morse Casino and he deserves so much than that. When I first read his description I had to read the paragraph again because I thought I read that wrong. Not only is baby boy black he's also bisexual and you actually see that and not it just be in passing. No one has a problem with it from what I seen so far and good. Levi makes so dumb mistakes that had huge consequences in the end and I hated watching that played out.

We were also introduced to Jac, who works for Levi, and Lola who is a 'friend' to Enne and they weren't really fleshed out enough for me to form any opinion on them. We got a small backstory on Lola and know what Jac does but that's about it and I need more.

Overall I did enjoy this book a lot and would recommend it. ...more
