Wow. I love Laini Taylors books.
First off, I do want to address that this book took me two months to read. I know that is a ridiculously long time but the problem all had to do with me. I have been very busy this trimester with school and found there was times where I wasn't in the mood to listen to an audiobook. This book was not bad what so ever, I'm just bad at blocking out time to listen to the audiobook fo this.

Guys, can I just say that these books were absolutely FANTASTIC?! I don't know why I was hesitating so much to read these but I completely fell in love with the world and the characters and pretty much everything about this book. I kind of wish there was more to the story especially when Lazlo and the rest go off on that journey at the end - it would definitely be interesting to read more about it. But anyways, I loved this book.

I don't know why I was hesitating so much to read these but I completely fell in love with the world and the characters and pretty much everything about this book. I kind of wish there was more to the story especially when Lazlo and the rest go off on that journey at the end - it would definitely be interesting to read more about it. But anyways, I loved this book.

The first book was definitely more of a slow burn for me. I took my time reading it and finished it after maybe 4 or 5 days which is quite long for me. However, I loved the time that it took for the author to set everything up but still keeping it very intriguing and the readers (aka me) very entertained. I loved reading about Lazlo and his beginnings and how he fell in love with the forgotten city of Weep to begin with. There were just so much wonderful interactions and dynamics that he had with the rest of the characters.

I also really enjoyed reading about Sarai's perspective as well. The first book had a dual POV set up where we got to read about Lazlo's POV as well as Sarai which I enjoyed. To be fair though, when Sarai first popped up, I was a little confused because it was just so different from Lazlo's world that I did get a bit lost. However, after a few more of her perspective, I was really able to fall in love with her issues and her situation.

In terms of the second book, I pretty much devoured it and finished it in 2 days or so. At that point, I literally just wanted to know everything about what was going on and what really struck out to me for this book was the fact that the author finally shared the history of the gods that were introduced in the first book. I found that absolutely fascinating and knew that where the gods came from was going to play a vital part and it did.

Honestly, everything about these books were just so incredible. I loved learning about the forgotten city of Weep, what really happened 200 years ago and why they disappeared, why the name of the city was gone from everyone, where did the gods come from, the history of their powers and pretty much everything. Everything was so beautifully written and came together seamlessly.

If I had to mention one negative thing, it would be the fact that there were a few incidences where I found the writing to be a bit too lyrical that I would read through it so fast because it literally just flowed so well but then I would realize that I didn't actually absorb anything I just read and would have to go back a page or two. This mostly happened in the second book because, as stated, I devoured that book!

Okay, I did enjoy this book. I know what you’re wondering: why the mediocre rating?!
Sarai and Lazlo are my babies and deserve every happiness! I love their love! And really that’s about it. I loved the beginning of the book... and I loved the end of the book. The whole part is the middle where everyone’s just talking to each other and Minya’s sleeping for 5 million years and Sarai is wasting her time in her dreams instead of banging her man? Yeah I didn’t love so much.

PURE PERFECTION!
I don't think I've ever felt so satisfied after reading a book. It was the perfect sequel. Everything ended nicely but still the door is open enough for some possible continuation.
When I started Strange the Dreamer I wasn't sure if I'd like Lazlo, but I ended up completely falling in love with him, so I missed him a little in this one. I get why his voice wasn't as important as in the first book, cuz we had so many amazing characters, but sometimes I just wanted more of our favor ...more

I went into Strange the Dreamer hesitantly, I don’t read much High Fantasy and I was worried I wouldn’t understand the hype. It turns out I had no reason to worry because this series is truly incredible and deserving of all the hype and praise thrown its way. Laini Taylor is one of the most talented authors I’ve ever read from, her ability to craft stories and characters is phenomenal.

Muse of Nightmares picks up just minutes after Strange the Dreamer ended, we are immediately thrown into the chaos and get to watch everything unravel. The pacing is perfect, there is an amazing balance of action, character moments and world building, I was never overwhelmed or bored. We follow Sarai more than Lazlo this time around but I loved it. I have no idea which book I love more, they both took my breath away.

I loved seeing all my favourite characters from the first book and I really liked the new characters we met and what their perspectives brought to the story. We got to see Lazlo and Sarai’s relationship develop further, We learnt more about Minya’s backstory and why she changed so much after the Carnage, We got to see Thyron’s amazing character development, We were given so many wonderful character moments, I adored it. No character is good or bad and the way Laini Taylor writes the antagonists is incredible. I felt for them and really loved them, especially Minya.

I really liked the way everything wrapped up, it felt a little rushed towards the end but I still loved how everything was resolved. I have my fingers crossed that Laini Taylor will write more books in this world, she has crafted such a unique world and such complex characters that there could easily be a dozen more books.

Overall, Muse of Nightmares was an incredible sequel and end to this series. The writing, characters and world are all fantastic and beautiful. I highly recommend giving this duology a go. ...more
