Heartbreaking but relatable. I love how intimately Adichie presents race relationships; not all authors can accomplish this in a way that provokes thought, not defensiveness. Americanah was my first Adichie novel and I was afraid I wouldn't like HOAYS as much. I surprised myself by loving it even more, perhaps because this one seemed less plot-driven and more atmospheric.
