This is the best thriller I have read in a long time. The tension was ramped up from the start and was maintained throughout the book. It really reminded me of Christie-esque whodunnit with the restrictive location and colourful cast of characters. Lo was a great protagonist for this type of book, flawed and unreliable I was rooting for her whilst still not quite trusting her. so when i first started reading this i was excited because the main character Lo was a travel writer who was going on an all expense paid amazing luxury cruise on its maiden voyage to see fjords and the aurora boreleis/ northern lights. sounds like a dream job and trip to me since i love to travel and write and one day i would to cruise through norway, sweden, england, etc. and see those as well since i didnt get to see them on my alaska trip.

however, my opinion from excited quickly switched to so when i first started reading this i was excited because the main character Lo was a travel writer who was going on an all expense paid amazing luxury cruise on its maiden voyage to see fjords and the aurora boreleis/ northern lights. sounds like a dream job and trip to me since i love to travel and write and one day i would to cruise through norway, sweden, england, etc. and see those as well since i didnt get to see them on my alaska trip.

however, my opinion from excited quickly switched to worried that the main character was going to be another one of those unreliable narrators since she acted very rude and skittish to almost everyone, including her boyfriend, she was constantly popping anxiety meds, and never seemed to not be drinking some kind of alcohol. plus she was a recent victim of a break-in while home right before the trip so between drinking, meds, and lack of sleep she didnt seem very coherent during a lot of the book and was even accused of imagining some of the events that occur during the story. when she accidently finds herself involved in a major twist that becomes the key to the story to such an extent that she spends the rest of the book trying to prove she isnt crazy and what seemed like a trip of a lifetime becomes a very dangerous situation she would give anything to get away from - but she cant since she is trapped aboard a ship at sea.

overall this was a pretty decent story with enough suspense that i went through it pretty quickly and it definitely held my interest. seems like a lot people either really liked it or really disliked it. ...more

I am being generous in giving this 2 stars. I loved Ruth Ware's Dark Wood, so I had high hopes for this one. But it was the most boring book ever. It moved so slowly and the main character was unbelievably whiny. Some stuff also defies logic (view spoiler) ...more

This book took quite a while to get into. At first I must say I didn't like the main character but by the end of the book this changed. It's a book with some twists and surprises, it reminded me a little of Murder on the Orient Express but on a boat and with a different outcome. ...more
