Wonderful, compelling read. Taken from historical records, Sue Monk Kidd adds details to make Sarah and Nina Grimke and their lives come alive. The horror of slavery in the South is told through the bravery and courage of the Grimke slaves, especially Charlotte and her daughter Handful. I was interested to read of the conflicts in the North over slavery, even among the Quakers.
