I don't know how Russo does it, but he is a writer who creates life. His characters are as real as anything I've encountered in literature. ...more

i love richard russo. his stories of families, teens, drunks, artists, teachers, strange, normal people and the problems of their daily lives interest me intensely. he also discusses psychology and philosophy while telling these interesting stories. i have read this two times and will purchase the audio book so i can hear it. i have read EMPIRE FALLS 3 times and am now listening to the tapes. i can t get enough of richard. i look for interviews with him on the net but they are hard to find.

I really enjoy this author. I've now read four of his books, plus a collection of short stories. He really brings small towns to life and his characters are so vivid. I can just imagine Lou Lynch and his corner convenience store. I wish it was down the block from my house. I liked the characters and how Russo makes them so complex. He doesn't hide the bad stuff about small towns, but he brings out the best in his characters. This is right up there with Empire Falls in my estimation. ...more

I am madly in love with Richard Russo. To me, he is one of America's greatest novelists and he doesn't write books nearly enough. "Bridge of Sighs" is his first book in six years. I was so excited for this. It was good. Not my favorite, but it would be up there. ...more

Truly an enjoyable book. I believed the characters and he made me care about them. The only exception was Bobby Marconi as artist. But, Russo tied up all the threads in the ending so well that I was willing to suspend disbelief in that area.

Two for two -- Russo did it again! Characters one can care about along with lives filled with the good, the bad and ugly of humanity and with the grace to be found within that same humanity. What a book.
