I really liked this book on a couple of counts. It was a fictionalized account of the Biafran war of secession from Nigeria. I liked the neo-colonial history angle of the story, and the general sense of the texture of those times. It was mostly during my last couple of years as an undergraduate, and I was somewhat aware of this war, albeit more personally concerned with Viet Nam. Adichie has an impressive story telling ability. She accomplished writing a novel with historical background, yet able to present her identity as a Biafran woman throughout her writing.
It's interested to find a bit description of international relief organizations activities during the Biafra War as well as a humane description of displaced persons and the way the terms changes according to the context from the middle part of the novel to the end. Better late than never to read this book, which was fascinating. Besides being an education in the Nigerian Civil War (the Biafran War), it was also an amazing portrayal of its main characters.
