For readability, this book would get five stars. It is easy to get through, has good pacing and kept me interested. But the complete lack of realism and shortage of danger made me decide to give it only three stars.

The basic story is of a count, forced to give up his substantial home and property and relocate to a hotel in Moscow, in 1922. Because of the revolution, he is not allowed to leave again until sometime in the 1960s. At some point he has to move from his generous suite to a tiny room o

I quite enjoyed this and also am left a bit...empty by it. The premise is fascinating, and the glimpse into 3 decades of Moscow and Russia from the 1920s-1930s was really interesting to me. It's also got me wanting to read more Russians so I started George Saunders book A Swim in a Pond in the Rain: In Which Four Russians Give a Master Class on Writing, Reading, and Life, and I can already tell that's going to be a slow (one short story at a time) but very valuable read.

I enjoyed this book, though it was a little slow. The characters were interesting, as was the plot. I liked learning a bit about Russia during that time period.
