I love this humour. “He looked at me with an eye that could open oysters at 50 paces”. “What drew the officer’s attention? - The sound of stealthy footsteps. - Perhaps someone stepping stealthily?” I laughed out loud with every turn of the page.
The characters are brilliant and the plot is pure farce with just the right amount of satire. I pictured Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry in their classic roles which, for me added to the fun.

This book is simply hilarious, so silly, so entertaining - a lemon meringue pie of literary farce. It is the first Wodehouse I have ever read, but it won't be the last. The best Wodehouse narrator reading one of the best Jeeves and Wooster novels; five stars simply don't convey it, so I shall resort to poetry: "The lark is on the wing / The snail is on the thorn / Plum has written another Jeeves and Wooster book / All's right with the world." ...more

I’ve been hearing about P.G. Wood house for years but this is my first experience with Bertie Wooster and Jeeves. It strikes me as verbally articulate slapstick. I chuckled a few times and I see the appeal but I don’t think it’s for me.

No wonder I've had these books recommended to me so frequently over the years -- now if I could just figure out why I'd never succumbed to curiosity long ago! What fun this is -- loving it and looking forward to many more Bertie and Jeeves escapades in the future! ...more

My favorite Wodehouse, but he's not for everyone. Farce, like slapstick comedy, is tricky and not everyone has the taste for it.

But Wodehouse is a master of the craft and if you like the genre, for my money, this is the one book to read.
