What Members Thought

Jenny (Reading Envy)
Another one from the Tournament of Books 2021 shortlist that I knew I'd get to eventually. A Ghanaian family relocates to Alabama and Gifty ends up studying neuroscience after experiencing her brother's addiction and her mother's depression. I liked this more than Homegoing because it focuses more on fewer characters. That makes three novels this year that feature science grad student main characters!

Oh yeah and narrator Bahni Turpin is always excellent.

A lovely book exploring the relationship of faith and science with the backdrop of race, immigration, addiction and family.
