This was an odd yet interesting read for me. The first part I found murky and almost incomprehensible, to the point of almost giving up. Once I understood exactly what the shameful thing was that Jim had done, though, I was much more interested. There is some gorgeous language and some deeply insightful views of human nature here, wrapped up in the colonial world view. I want to go back and read Heart of Darkness again, now.
