i'm still debating with my father whether levin was a fool or merely clumsy, but i do regret that the book didn't end with vronsky's going off to serbia, without the happy family scene and conversion at the end. i always feel deceived when that happens, the sneak attack of christianity.

Heartbreaking. Sad. And yes, it's long. But oh so wonderful! It will always be one of my favorites. I should have read it again with the Oprah crowd.

Still not done with this book. It is 30 cd's long!!! Parts of it have been amazing. When I get into it I get totally pulled into another world. However, I can't make myself care about the farming, and the political aspects. Levan's confusion at the elections was rather funny though.

Despite the fact that this is a long book it was an extremely fast one to read. I loved Tolstoys descriptions of everyday Russian life. Too long ago to recall very much from the book as I read the book over 25 years ago. If you are going to pick one Russian classic to read I highly recommend this book.
