This book exemplifies the deficiencies in the star system here on GR. The problem was, I actually really enjoyed this book to the point that I honestly couldn't put it down. It was definitely corny (I mean, what was with the Vampire names? Really?) and there were aspects of it which I found silly (the 'guy bonding' between Butch and Vishious in particular) or even annoying (way too many acronyms, but perhaps that is because I didn't know half of them and so wasn't sure what they were talking abo ...more

Book One of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
Pages 393

As I was reading I found that the basic storyline to be really interesting but the writing at times kind of got to me. The "funny" moments seemed forced. I wasn't a fan of the names but, I can over look that. Wrath at times reminded me of the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, and yes I mean the Disney cartoon. But over all good book, can't wait to read the second book in the series. I'm looking forward to know what happens to some of the ot

I read Lover Avenged first, loved it and simply had to read the other books. So I bought a copy of Dark Lover. And I am pleased to say that Dark Lover did not disappoint at all, it's very well written and J.R. can do characters like no ones business. Her character growth is usually nothing short of excellent, and like I wrote in my review for Lover Avenged, she really gets you into the character's heads and really helps you understand who they are and why they do what they do. And the romance wa ...more

I guess one could call this a classic paranormal romance...back from the days of flipper cell phones and calling a cab rather than an Uber.
A fun read if you like this genre, which I do! So much so, in fact, that I put all my reading challenges challenge aside again and jumped into the next book in the series, Lover Eternal. I was not feeling well (side-effects of my second dose of COVID vaccine) and I needed comfort, which for some reason I always get from sexy vampires. If that's wrong, I don'

Another PNR I had to read for a challenge. This one actually was fun and didn't take itself too seriously. Harmless. Funny. So ridiculous. ...more

Oh my!
I love some vampire books... Wrath and his brothers are real vampires. They can be scary, sexy, and also pretty funny. Ward creates a world where vampires don't live on human blood, rather they live off of the blood from the female vampires and their enemies are soulless "Lessers" that are out to kill them. It is a different vampire book, but as I read I could buy into it.
The brothers of the Black Dagger Brotherhood were an interesting bunch. Some were super good looking and charming, ot

I went into Dark Lover really expecting it to be a stereotypical vampire dark romance/lust book that relied on many tired tropes. Well, that wasn't entirely the case. Yes, many of the old familiar tropes are there, but then again, this book was first published nearly 2 decades ago in 2005.

The vampires are larger than life, physically; they are all, to an extent beautiful, even with their battle scars. The main vampire character is dark, moody, and thinks he cannot be loved, until the main femal

I was kind of disappointed by this book. I've read so many wonderful reviews (with 99% giving 5 stars) and I expected to do the same. Instead this book was terribly average. The concept is alluring, I'll give you that much, and it is an interesting read, but most of the time I found myself ridiculing the book rather than enjoying it. I can't really say it's implausable because it is a vampire romance, but a lot of the things the main character did just made me want to pull my hair out. She's mea ...more

This book had me hooked from the first page. It was incredible. A fast pace story with awesome characters. Not quite like any other Vampire novel I have read which made it very refreshing. The story line has quite a few darker elements thrown in and takes place in our reality.

I loved reading about the different members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and can't wait to get to know them better, especially Zsadist. I think there is much more to that "Brother" then meets the eye. ;op

Maybe 3.5 stars for this on. It was quick and fun, but not exactly a work of staggering literary genius.
