This book had the most fantastic characters and the settings were so well created you could imagine being there.

The fact that Charles is reminiscing about the past from Brideshead, makes the change from the upper class world to a world in the middle of war more dramatic, as we see what he has lost suddenly, rather than observing a gradual change.
