Part haunted house, part Alien first contact this slow burn tells the story of scientist Kris Kelvin who finds himself on an ocean planet with people he thought were dead.
While slow I have always found this novel to be interesting and thought provoking. It is one of the few books I would tell a reader to read and then watch the Russian movie as it may explain some plot points unclear i the novel.

This took me a long time for such a short read. I know it's classic sci fi, and has twice been made into a movie. But I just couldn't get into it the way I expected I would. For one thing, the author often spent a long time describing the ocean and its various formations. That didn't advance the plot at all, and got rather tiresome. I could see why these aspects might come off better in a movie than in the book. The more important issue I have with the book, though, is that while it raised sever
