This was a decent story but I just couldn’t relate to the main characters, especially Raphael, who seemed too disconnected from human reality. He seemed so distant, so otherworldly that frankly, I couldn’t understand why he bothered (why any of the archangels bothered, to tell you the truth.) I love Nalini Singh! I totally love her Psy-Changeling books! So why such a bland rating on this one? It has the very creative and inventive world-building that I've come to expect from Ms. Singh, but I just couldn't feel anything for the main characters. And though I have absolutely no problem enjoying books about vampires & shapeshifter & humans with PNR abilities & magic in general, I just couldn't get my mind to suspend all disbelief enough to enjoy the world created here: Angels live openly

It would be very easy to write a critical review of this book; literature it is not. It is a kind of combo of American Psycho and the Twilight series-romantic and violent, with fantasy thrown in. When I first picked it up I thought Archangels?? Violent ones and bad ones??? A whole new set of rules as to how each kind of being behaves. Hardly fair, but I guess that's why it is fantasy.
But if you can get over that, deal with imaginary words, sometimes quite stilted dialogue and lots of repetition ...more
