This is a matter of expectations of the book and feeling a little bit lost because the book was quite different than what I expected. Yes, there is a bit of mystery and then a tiny bit of 'thriller' action near the ending but wow, it took a very very long time to get there.

There were aspects of this book that I really liked: the writing was excellent, the characters were complicated, and it was interesting to read Prentice's story, which was told both in his own voice in present time and in a narrative voice that related incidents from when his father had been younger. But what should've been a real mystery, pulling the reader forward through the entire book, was merely an infrequent whisper, with everything dumped nearly all at once right at the end. That's what
