I am somewhat undecided about this book, on one hand it was amusing and entertaining to see Hunter and attorney struggle through their drug induced paranoia and helplessness while staying out of jail (how I do not know) and breathing. One the other hand I found the story completely directionless without any kind of real point or purpose (or any kind of real end for that matter). I suppose this is part of Thompson's drug fuelled commentary on the realities and extremes of the 'American Dream' but ...more

A fascinating read, it really seemed to capture the mind altering state of drugs, and has left me with no temptation to try them! The descriptive passages were very well done, and the audacity of the characters incredible!
