What Members Thought
Redeployment is a collection of short stories, all told from perspectives of soldiers. Some stories are during deployment. Some are immediately after. Some are as they are trying to settle in, fit in, as civilians. While these stories are fiction, they feel very realistic to me. I’m not American and I don’t personally know any soldiers so I can’t swear how close to reality these stories are but they just feel a lot closer to life than the thrillers I read. Like O'Brien's work updated for the recent conflict in Iraq. The chapters are all different vignettes and most of them are very well written. There is a definite sense of poignant melancholy around the writing.
