Every cloud has a silver lining.
This is what Pat Peoples, the main protagonist, firmly believes in. He just came out from a mental institution — the bad place as he calls it — and vows never to return there again. So he works hard on improving himself by (over) exercising daily, practicing being kind than being right, and reading books that Nikki, his wife, loves. I liked this book - I really did and would give it 3.5 stars if I could. I think I went in with too high expectations though. I absolutely loved Sorta Like a Rock Star and thought I would love this book just as much. There was great character development and towards the end I was completely engrossed trying to figure out "the real story." I'd be curious what the official psychiatric diagnosis was for Pat, although that might have detracted from the story. I am probably one of the few people on t

I loved this book. Both funny and poignant, the story is told by Pat and starts when his mother gets him out of the mental institution where he's been living. He doesn't remember what he did to wind up there; he is just working to make himself better so his wife will decide to end their "apart time" and get back together with him. Decent book once I got used to the voice of Pat. I wasn't really drawn to any characters, but that is what happens in a shorter book for me.
