Ave Maria Mulligan is 35, a spinster and her mother has just died. I had a hard time putting this book down, but in the end I was a bit disappointed. I felt like some of the scenes in the story that I was interested in were rushed through while those that I wasn't interested in were lengthy and slowed the pace of the book. I loved the characters, but I was confused by the motivations of the two love interests. I loved this series (well the first three, I haven't read the 4th one yet) It took me a little bit to get into this one, maybe 50 or 60 pages but then I was hooked. In this one Ave Maria is trying to sort out her love life and learn more about her family. The characters are great and there is a nice mix of funny and sad.

I liked the setting which was a little coal mining town in the Blue Ridge Mountains during the 70's. It's a light, entertaining story chuck full of oddball characters.
