John Steinbeck (1902-1968) is one of America’s greatest writers and is a Nobel Prize winner for Literature in 1962. I must confess, though, that this is the first time I read a book by him, all thanks to Jzhun who kept on raving about how wonderful a writer John Steinbeck is. I bought my copy of this book for only Php17.00 from Booksale, but certainly this book is worth a thousand more than its price.

Update: I just finished reading this for a challenge and I was struck by how quick and easy it was when in high school it felt so long and tortuous.
I read this in 9th grade. We were supposed to read this over Christmas vacation and I guess I must have skimmed part because I missed a MAJOR event at the end of the book (and didn't do so well on the quiz as a result! I remember my sister saying "How could you not know that happened?" Not my proudest moment to be sure! ...more
