i put this book on the classics shelf with full conviction that it has the power to endure as long as pride and prejudice. i still get chills remembering the heart-stopping scenes toward the end of the book. with an engaging heroine and a plot that turns the pages all on its own, this book is a literal MUST read for anyone who hasn't yet, no matter how old they are. ...more

A good book, although I think I would have been more moved by it if I was younger. I am glad I read it and wish I had read it when I was in middle school or high school. A very quick read and I learned a little bit about WWII and the Resistance in Denmark.

A view of the Danish Resistance through the eyes of Annemarie..a young girl living in Copenhagen in 1943. Chilling but not too graphic for the young reader. Ms Lowry is a wonderful storyteller.

3.5 stars. The afterword, explaining how much of the story was fiction versus fact was very interesting. That most of the story is fact was enlightening.
