The author called this story a nightmare. I think of it as a story of deceit and love and loss. It was short and easy to read, although I did notice that some of the language of the writing was "old". By that I mean, the author used words that are not in everyday use now. I am also aware that this author was British and so there is a slant to British people are better than Americans...just a bit, just a very slight bit - of which the author I think was aware. ...more

Shelves: classics, still-owned
Dark, satirical humour set amongst the funeral parlours of 1950s Hollywood. No-one comes out of this story looking good, but perhaps that was the goal.
