What Members Thought

This was quite the interesting and funny little book. So much is happening in these 200 odd pages. So many characters. My mind has been entertained as well as confused. I enjoyed Rincwind and Twoflower. Death is also great. Discworld, is going to be a fun journey.

I am somewhat ashamed to say that despite my admiration for the late Sir Terry Pratchett as a person, I had never before read any of his Discworld novels. So I was glad to get the opportunity to finally make amends for this oversight. I know many people have said that this, the first novel, is not the best but I really, really enjoyed it. I was already aware of Pratchett's form of humour and I had a pretty good idea what to expect, but what I loved most of all was not that this book was like so

While mostly fun to read, this is just a pale shadow of things to come for Terry Pratchett's Discworld books - although it does seem a little unfair to compare this to others I've read further on in the series. It isn't Pratchett's fault that I didn't start with this first book first. This does serve as a nice introduction to the Discworld and how things work, but not mandatory unless you plan to read them all. I did love Twoflower's luggage that has its own legs and relentlessly follows him eve

To be honest, I'm not quite sure what to think of this book. I suppose if I read this book at a better time, I would've enjoyed it more. However, I only managed to read this book bit by bit and didn't really get what the whole thibg's about. I felt that it's very frantic, almost maniacal, and oftentimes I felt I was just reading the words without understanding what's happening. This is the same kind of feeling I experienced when I was reading Pratchett & Gaiman's Good Omens, and now I know why i

My first introduction to the incredibly prolific Terry Pratchett and the 30+ book Discworld series. A perfectly enjoyable fantasy of the magical quest variety, but nicely different from the dragons/elves type. I'll probably read at least a few more of the Discworld books, particularly if I can find them in audio format. While I read (rather than listened) to this one, I have the sense that I'd enjoy these as audiobooks.

Very entertaining. It took a while to get into the book and understand what was going on, but after I did I enjoyed the story.
Loved the Twoflower character, but felt the end seemed unfinished (mainly I want to know what happened to him). I will probably go on to read some other books in the series.

I love the Discworld series, but I have to admit this isn't one of my favorites. I find the characters in later books have more depth and the stories are more complex. Apart from this, it is still a good read with some excellent jokes.

Love it. Wish you were here, Terry.
