I’ve liked everything of Scalzi’s except this series. Is it just the power of Wil Wheaton’s narration that makes the difference? Well, that’s important, but I liked the Consuming Fire and I read that in paper, not audiobook.
I don’t k ow what it is, but I just can’t get excited about this series. Shrug

Enjoyable continuation of the series, but not as clever or funny as the first book. I enjoy Scalzi's light humor that runs through his examination of real social interactions and particularly questions of how different people will treat humans that are in some way different. In this book, the genetic material of dead army recruits is used to create "superhuman hybrids" -- people who have a BrainPal computer from "birth" and are "enhanced" with extra speed, extra healing, etc. I'll read more by t ...more
